The CEH certification exam lasts for four hours and includes 125 multiple-choice questions that a candidate has to answer. The percentage of questions that must be answered correctly is subject to variation and may be more or less than 70 percent.

If a candidate is not able to pass the CEH certification exam on the first attempt, no cooling or waiting period is required to attempt the exam for a second time. If the second attempt is unsuccessful, a candidate will have to wait for 14 days to attempt the test again. The same goes for the subsequent two retakes.

A candidate is not allowed to take a given exam more than five times in a year. A waiting period of 12 months is mandatory before the sixth attempt of the CEH certification exam.
